CHAPTER ELEVEN

It was late when Dagger brought Ryan back to his suite. Dagger started stripping off his clothing, saying he needed a shower, and walked into his enormous bathroom. Ryan mentioned waiting out on the rooftop patio and went into the living room. He stopped at the bar and filed a glass with two fingers of whiskey and stepped outside to stand at the nearly chest-high railing.

Ryan stared at the briliant lights blazing down on the Vegas strip below, making it seem almost daylight there. The night air was warm and dry, a soft breeze moved his hair around his head. Ryan drew in a long breath. His head ached from over-thinking every detail of the last few hours. What was he doing here? How did he ever think visiting Dagger on tour was a good idea?

He had always considered himself a rational thinking man, but in the few months since his interview with Dagger, he'd managed to become completely irrational. How the hel was this possible? Was he that desperate for human contact or a relationship that he'd risk his career, his sanity, and his heart by getting involved with Dagger? What the fuck was he thinking? That seemed to be the number one recurring question in his life these past few weeks. And it was a question he stil hadn't been able to answer.

Ryan tossed back the last bit of whiskey from the glass into his throat and closed his eyes. He could smel Dagger's spicy, musk blend of cologne floating through the air and knew he was standing beside him without having to look. It was amazing how familiar the man had become to him in such a short period of time.

“Enjoying the view?” Dagger asked.

My God! That sexy fucking voice will be the end of me!

Ryan nodded, contemplated refiling his glass, then turned his head toward Dagger. He was bare-chested; wearing nothing more than a pair of loose fitting athletic pants. Ryan could see his toes peeking out from the hem of the pants. He lifted his gaze to Dagger's eyes. His hair was stil damp from the shower and his face was freshly-shaved. Smooth and clean.

“What's wrong?” Dagger asked.

How was it possible for Dagger to know his moods so wel? It was as if he had an inside connection to Ryan's personal thoughts. It unnerved Ryan a bit, but for some reason it also felt comfortable, like they'd known each other for decades instead of weeks.

“Looks like you've been out here over-thinking things, Ry, and that always makes me nervous,” Dagger said. His hand gripped the back of Ryan's bicep, then his fingers started rubbing the tight muscle. “Talk to me, Ry. What's going through that over-active brain of yours?”

A long moment of silence passed before Ryan finaly spoke.

“Why are you with me?” Ryan asked. “No bulshit. Tel me why. I realy need to know. Why me, when you could easily have any guy you wanted?”

Dagger set his elbow onto the railing and roled to Ryan.
